Maternity Leave

I have a PI that went on Maternity Leave. Upon trying to certify effort, she noticed that she was on a grant during her maternity leave. Can her effort be put towards a grant during her maternity leave?

As per our fringe rate agreement, “Vacation, holiday, sick leave pay and other paid absences are included in salaries and wages and are claimed on grants, contracts, and other agreements as part of the normal cost for salaries and wages.  Separate claims are not made for the cost of these paid absences.  Unused leave payments made upon separation are included in the fringe benefit rates.”  It is appropriate costing that her salary and wages be charged to the grants during her leave.  She should feel comfortable certifying her effort on grants while on maternity leave.  If she was not on leave the entire quarter, she should certify her effort according to how she worked for whatever period she was not on leave.  If she was on leave for the entire effort period, she should certify her effort according to how she was spending her time immediately prior to and/or immediately after her leave period.
