What is the process if a PI leaves/retires and terminates a project instead of transferring it to someone or taking it with them?

The PI would need to first inform their chair and dean of their intent to terminate and if it is determined that there are no other faculty members that can oversee this project, they would work with their contact in Sponsored Programs Administration to determine how to terminate the agreement per the award document.
